Sweet Cicely Plant Start

from $12.00
sold out
Sweet Cicely Myrrhis odorata first got on our radar about six years ago. It never fails to impress folks on our farm tours. Sweet Cicely has very elegant, fern-like leaves and it’s small white umbel flowers are irresistible to pollinators.

You will receive a well-established dormant plant when you order from us. The greens will have been cut back to better fit into packaging. Once planted out you will see new growth appearing in the spring. *

The entire plant is edible and has a very pronounced anise, black licorice flavor. The immature seeds are our favorite and are basically like good and plenty candy. Try using the hollow flower stalks as a straw for an anise-essence in beverages. The leaves are nice as an edible garnish to salads. Although we have not tried eating the roots, some like to roast them up for a starchy, anise-flavored side dish.

In our Pacific Northwest temperate climate, Sweet Cicely performs well both in direct sun and part shade. It’s proven to be quite hardy and young plants seem to bounce back well from long periods of neglect in the summer heat.
